SUMMARY:Suminagashi - A Meditative Paper Marbling Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Guided by Guest Facilitator Jade Ruscio\, this hands-on workshop\, introduces the ancient Japanese art of suminagashi\, a meditative process where ink is floated on water to create soft\, flowing patterns that are then transferred onto paper. Participants will learn the basics of working with ink on a water bath\, gently shaping organic designs\, and creating one of a kind prints that balance intention and chance. \nThe 2 hour format offers plenty of time to experiment\, settle into a rhythm\, and make multiple prints. The focus is on mindfulness\, exploration\, and embracing imperfection\, with optional ambient sound (like singing bowls) to support a calm\, immersive experience. Participants will leave with a collection of marbled papers for framing\, gifting\, or personal use. Open to all levels. \n* A minimum of 2 participants is required for each workshop to run\, with a maximum capacity of 14 participants. DESCRIPTION:This follow-up workshop with Guest Facilitator Jade Ruscio builds on the marbling process and guides participants in turning their papers into a hand-bound journal. Using prints from the first session (or creating new ones)\, we’ll learn simple bookbinding techniques and assemble a finished\, functional piece. \nThe pace is relaxed and intentional\, with space to enjoy the process of arranging\, folding\, and binding. Like the first workshop\, the environment supports a meditative flow\, with optional sound elements like singing bowls. \nEach workshop can stand alone\, but they’re designed to complement each other.
